Goats are very versatile animals, producing milk, fibre and meat, and the goat industry is well represented in the Meander Valley.
Different breeds of goats are farmed for specific purposes -
- Angora goats produce fibre, called mohair
- dairy goat breeds, such as Saanen, Toggenburg and Nubian, produce milk
- Boer goats are bred for meat
Goats have been a popular part of the animal nursery at the Deloraine Show for many years, but at this year’s Deloraine Show there will be mohair fleece judging, with a trade display, and dairy goat judging.
